River....
in the twinkling of time, in a stare-down eye to eye
sailing side by side on a mission doomed from wire to wire on a river….
we all start out with a nice clean slate but ahead the slopes are slippery
when the ice begins to break it hits you right between the eyes
when you dive into a river of fire
it kinda went down like a third class murder
viewed through the cracks of a two-way mirror
in clouds of complicated psychobabble the criminal preaches to the choir
the dream i used to have when i was young and full of wonder
it rumbles in my head, it’s a cloud i’m living under
i can’t help but feel the pounding of this heart once full of hunger
what it’s saying is it won’t hold on any longer
though it stings to feel these cold winds biting
the only way down is go down fighting
a chill goes up my spine when i see the writing on the walls
that reads the world could have been ours
i wasn’t given the life i wanted
waking up one day to find your house is haunted
imagine a menagerie of animals with wounded moans and cries
the woes of listening through walls of din
could it be another shifting paradigm again?
and in the twinkling of time, in a stare-down eye to eye,
sailing side by side on a mission doomed from wire to wire on a river of fire
while waiting for the long arms of the law to catch us
we’ll venture to wherever this dreamscape stretches
if necessary sail to a malaria plagued tropical isle
the one thing you learn when you are young and hungry
to scrap and claw while searching every corner of this country
to the highest driest desert for one more glimpse of that smile
the dream i used to have when i was young and full of wonder
still rumbles in my head, with an echoing of thunder
i can’t help but feel the pounding of this heart once full of hunger
(It’s as if it all were written in the stars…)
though it stings to feel these cold winds biting (by higher powers…)
the only way down is go down fighting (…..and higher laws)
eat or be eaten, lay it on the line
chills go up my spine when i read the writing on the walls –
the world could have been ours
au revoir, au revoir
