Eversince

once upon a time i was lost and lonely 

there was a time i dreamed of you only

i remember writing poems as i gazed the stars in the sky

i find ways to obey god’s wishes, work my way through the hits and misses 

while counting on the one thing that matters most to get by

i’ve spent many painful days aimless in dazes

knowing only wrong ways out of those mazes 

but ever since the day i found you 

ever since i wrapped my arms around you

ever since the day you told me you were mine

ever since you called my name from the darkness 

before i fell prey to the ways of the heartless

it seems you’ve found a way to make this weary heart sigh 

and turn back the hands of time

i never see a light when it’s darkest 

only seeing night through the eyes of an artist

watching from the wings and waiting for the sun to rise

make no mistake, my heart’s still achin’

every time i think of you my world starts shakin’

it turns out you proved to be a master of disguise

in a world in which we’re buried in lies and illusion 

stepping in and out of states of delusion

surrounded by clouds when life gives a surprise

but here’s the one thing i still can’t imagine – 

how it must have felt to cross that chasm

knowing the chances of no one hearing those cries

when the future’s in the past and the past has been trampled 

you want your vision cleared but the picture’s been scrambled 

it’s more than you can bear to continue to follow those signs

if you’re going to a place where you’ve never been – 

each moment with a chance again to begin

it is true you’ve only lived once ’til that moment arrives 

exploding before your eyes….  

since the day I found you, when I wrapped my arms around you

now the days are walks in the sunshine 

now they seem to be such a fun time 

could it be the planets now all align?

so here’s to hoping these days last forever 

walking hand in hand by the shoreline together

and never looking back and never looking forward in time 

and just saying i’m yours and your mine
